Terms of Service

1. Who can use Fated

To use Fated you must:

• be at least 18 years old;
• be able to agree to these terms, and not be barred from using Fated by law or by an earlier removal from Fated;
• never have been convicted of a violent or sexual offense, and not be required to register as a sex offender;
• use Fated only for yourself, not on behalf of a business or anyone else.

Fated is currently available in the United States. We may open other places later.

2. Your account

• One account, and it's you. Use your real first name, your real age, and photos of yourself. You can have one account.
• Keep it accurate. Keep your details up to date, especially your city, age and photos.
• Keep it secure. Choose a strong password, don't share it, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
• Photos. Every profile needs at least three photos of you. Don't upload photos of other people without their permission, or photos of anyone under 18.

3. How Fated works

Fated introduces you to one person at a time in a thread: a conversation that lasts a limited time, which varies from thread to thread. A match's photo, job and age are hidden at first and unlock as you talk. After each thread you can tell Fated how it went, and your answers shape who you meet next. After a series of threads, Fated introduces your Fated: the person it thinks fits you best.

• Your match is a suggestion, not a promise. We don't guarantee that you'll get along with anyone, or that you'll find a relationship.
• You can end any thread early, block anyone, and split from your Fated at any time. If you split, a new journey begins.
• How many threads you get, how long each lasts, and who is in your pool depend on the people available near you. We may change how matching works to make it better.

4. Community rules

Everyone on Fated signs the same pledge: I'm 18+ and here as myself. I treat people as individuals, with no fetishizing. I respect a no, the first time. I never ask for money. I report anything that feels off.

You must not:

• harass, threaten, bully, stalk or intimidate anyone;
• post or send hateful content, or treat anyone as a stereotype of their race, ethnicity, culture or appearance ("fetishizing");
• send sexual or explicit content that the other person hasn't clearly agreed to, or any sexual content involving someone under 18;
• ask anyone for money, gift cards, crypto or financial details, or run any scam, investment pitch or romance fraud;
• pretend to be someone else, use someone else's photos, or misrepresent your age, identity or relationship status;
• share someone's private information, or their photos or messages, without their permission;
• advertise, sell, recruit or spam, or use Fated for any commercial purpose;
• pressure a match to move off Fated before they're ready;
• use bots, scrapers or other automated tools, try to get around our safety or verification features, or interfere with how Fated works;
• do anything illegal, or encourage anyone else to.

5. Your content

Your photos, profile, messages and other content remain yours. So that Fated can run, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, copy, display and process your content, only to provide and improve Fated and keep it safe. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we keep as our Privacy Policy describes.

You're responsible for what you post and send. Only share what you have the right to share. We may remove content that breaks these terms.

6. Safety and moderation

• We don't run criminal background checks on members, and we can't vouch for anyone's identity or intentions. Take care when you meet someone: video chat first, meet in public, arrange your own travel, and tell a friend where you'll be.
• Reports. You can report anyone. A person on the Fated team reviews every report, and the recent messages in that chat are shared with the reviewer.
• Automatic scam check. Fated watches chats for signs of scams, like requests for money or gift cards, and may send those conversations to our team to review.
• Our decisions. We may warn, pause or remove any account, and remove any content, if we believe it breaks these terms or puts someone at risk. We'll usually tell you why, unless doing so could harm someone or break the law.
• Appeals. If you think we got a decision wrong, contact us and a person will look at it again.

In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.

7. Verification

You can earn a Verified badge by taking a selfie that a person on the Fated team compares with your profile photos. You can also add an optional ID check that confirms you're 18 or over. A badge means these checks passed at the time. It isn't a guarantee of anyone's identity, safety or character. If you change your photos, you'll need a new selfie to keep the badge. We may remove a badge if we have reason to believe it no longer fits.

8. The beta

Fated is in beta. Features may change, pause or be removed, and things may not always work as expected. Fated is free during the beta. If we introduce paid features later, we'll show you the price and terms before you pay anything.

9. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Deleting it removes your profile, photos, threads and chats, and frees your email address so you can sign up again later. We may pause or close your account if you break these terms, if we have to by law, or to protect others.

10. Fated's property

The Fated name, logo, design, software and content we create belong to us. You may use Fated only as these terms allow, and you may not copy, change, sell or reverse-engineer it.

11. Disclaimers

Fated is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises about Fated beyond those in these terms: for example, that it will always be available, that it will be free of errors, or that any match will work out. We aren't responsible for how members behave, on or off Fated.

12. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Fated and its team won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or opportunities, arising from your use of Fated or from contact with other members. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US $100. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

If you break these terms and someone brings a claim against us because of it, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows.

13. Disputes

If you have a problem with Fated, please contact us first; most things can be sorted out quickly. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, and disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts there, except where the law lets you bring a claim where you live, or in small claims court.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Fated grows. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Fated after that, you accept the new terms. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.
